A house from 1901 in a Saxon village, all to yourselves

Our grandparents' house in Gârbova (Urwegen) is let only as a whole, to one group of up to 16 guests: eight double rooms, each with its own bathroom, a dining room for the whole group, a courtyard and an orchard.

Casa Bunicilor was built by our grandparents in 1901 in Gârbova, a Transylvanian Saxon village first recorded in 1291. In 2018 we extended it and converted the attic, and since 2023 we have welcomed guests. While you stay, the house, the courtyard and the orchard are your group's alone.

The village

Urwegen

Gârbova – Urwegen to the Saxons – was first recorded in 1291. In the middle of the village stands its 13th-century fortress; in the gate tower, the Bacon Tower, villagers still hang their bacon. On the hill above lie the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. At Pentecost, many of the Saxons who emigrated come home.

What guests praise

Guests most often praise three things:

  • Cleanliness

Fresh bed linen, fresh towels and toiletries in every room.

  • The garden

4,000 m² of courtyard and orchard, with two gazebos, a playground and about 30 fruit trees.

  • The quiet

The house is your group's alone, in a quiet village.

Groups and schools

For groups

Groups of friends, large families, school classes with their teachers, motorcyclists on their way to the Transalpina and Saxons coming home. The whole group sits down together in the dining room, and the house sleeps you all, up to 16 guests.
